First Slow Step

I’ve had this blog for a month or so now. It’s been all mocked up with lorem ipsum text to test the layout and figure out the most appropriate organisational system for the posts. The blog’s been in stealth mode waiting for some reason.

I haven’t yet figured out exactly what purpose this blog will serve but everyone else has one so I guess I should too. Never one to start a trend, I’ll be the first to hang around and watch everyone else play with their new toys until I’m sure there aren’t any sharp bits to break off and be accidentally swallowed.

This isn’t a portfolio. It isn’t supposed to be professional. It’s a sideline, a dumping ground for lost and orphaned projects. A mangled version of a creative outlet. A place to splash about in mutilated grammar, half-realized sketches and perhaps a photo or three. It’ll probably evolve over time into something unwieldy and resistant to house-training. But for that to happen, it has to be born at some point, now being as good a time as any. And in the scheme of things, it’s all a bit of silliness that really doesn’t matter. So here goes.

If this be a new baby, let me be the first to spank it.

Let me be the second to spank it, and the first to subscribe.

about the blog

Inkonwove is a blog by me, illustrator/designer Kirsti Wakelin.

This blog contains a sample of much of the things that go into my working life. With everything from notifications on work added to my illustration and design portfolio, to work-in-progress and process sketches, pages from my sketchbook, odds and ends that interest me, the occasional non-art related ramble or up-close and personal photographs of invertebrates, Inkonwove is a kind of artistic junk drawer.

I also maintain another blog over at My Secret Elephant where the work I do for children's books, and everything about that subject, ends up.
